Is there any way to determine if the redemption rates for these funds are increasing?

I too own caibx, cwgix, and amecx.  I am not aware of any redemption information data but other than a reflection of market panic I'm not sure that redemption information has any relevance to an investment decision.  Given the market we are in I have revisited some fundamentals in order to keep my own emotions in check.  Here are the basics for me:

I bought the above investments for two reasons.  The first was the investment category of dividend paying stocks and bonds matched my investment goals and time frame.  The second was I believe that the advisors of Capital Rearch who makes those purchase decisions within the funds are among the deepest, talented and globally diversified in the mutual fund industry. The only reason I would sell these holdings was if one or both of those fundamentals changed. They havent.  I still believe dividend paying stocks to be viable investment category for long term wealth accumlation and a source of retirement income.  I still believe that Capital Research is one of the most talented global research organizations available to the individual investor. For me thats fundamental reason for staying the course regardless of the redemptions of others.  Regards,

And with those funds being down 25% to 35% or more,  YTD...  you had better have lots of confidence in management!!

My confidence level is still okay, and I have no intention of selling any of my shares.  My reason for asking the question was to try and determine if there is an unusual high redemption rate in the funds which might force the sale of some of the funds' assets resulting in larger CG's than would ordinarily be expected.

Thank you all for your responses.

Playbook.

Mutual Funds can borrow money from other funds within their own family.

Stop worrying....

Caibx's CGs will be less than <1%

That's true, t, and I admit that I bailed out back in Mar/Apr. I figured that I wouldn't have any "long-term" future to look forward to... if I lost all my meager savings in the short-term!  ;-)

My best wishes to you, and American funds. We could sure use some uplifting news. Take care.

Is holding 100% of one's assets in CAIBX still a good option for a retiree? That retiree would have to have a strong mindset.

I continue holding all CAIBX. I reinvest all cgs and dvs. I have also started dca'ing weekly on a modest level, since I have returned to work after a brief early retirement.

But let's say I am retired for good with all my assets in CAIBX. How would I feel with the NAV decline? I can't say for sure. Not that any other fund choice would be any better.

Best Regards

The fund itself is a terrific option to fulfill your specific long term need..

The problem here is not the fund, but a major structural problem with the system the fund works within to achieve it's goal for you..

Taylor,

I sure hope the fund can continue to do what it is intended to do, given the status of the system. Scary times.
