I think this is one of the biggest opportunities I will get in my life time. I believe if I play my cards right I can make aton of money.

''Be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy only when others are  fearful.'' Warren Buffett

SO WHAT MUTUAL FUNDS DO YOU THINK WOULD MAKE MONEY ONCE STOCKS REBOUND??

                                             Thank you

You give no info about your age and risk tolerance. And by the time you realize the recession is over you will have missed half the upside.

Well, I've been racking my brain about the same thing.. Which  Sectors, Funds, even which stocks, use Options, Puts, Calls to hanging out on Cramer and Fast Money Shows...LOL

I think A "Ton" of $ has already been made...ie: Those who know how to Play Options on both sides ot the fence..ie: Buy it short for going down and Long for when it recovers..and  I think most of  the Down side has happened and now , the upside hopefully happens and those people are inline to make more than God and the # of Million and Multi-Millionaires in Next Yrs Forbes List will probably double or Triple!

And Maybe McCain is really taking a Break to go Home to make a few More Milliion with his Wifes Money?  LOL

If this bail out goes thru Properly? Me thinks that there will be some banks and Financials in general that stand to gain, Big Time!  For Any co. that can dump it's Loosers and keep only it's winners  will... But Who and How to play them? BTHOM!

Buying Financial Funds? maybe.. Adam Bold advocated this..

I'm also looking at Who did the Best the last few Times around a recovery Yr and funds like:  BRUFX,CGMFX,CGMRX,FBRVX,FLVCX and a few others..

Also Looking for their 3rd Qtr reports and latest List of stocks they are into ( and have reduced )  as another Hint..

another is Using Indexes of Both ETF's and The Reg. One's

The Best for 03'? That I have on my List is : Small caps, Int'l and Reits

Balanced funds? FBALX, LAALX and WMMRX/WMRIX might be the best of the rest?

then Come the other more Conservative one's of FPACX, PRWCX,OAKBX, then bringing up the rear was PRPFX.

and I would think that All these Alledged Super Gains will be short Lived..maybe 3-4 mos? thus Do you Sell when they Peak? and then what do you do with that $? Add it toy our Reg. Balanced Port. of funds? Or do you roll the dice an let it ride? Figure out a Whole new Portfolio for the future?

Then there is the Bigger issue? How much $ in regards to it's % to your Total $ do you (a) Have to invest and (b) are Willing to Risk? and Is it really going to be worth it?

Putting it in Perspective: The way i look at it ?

For if your Only going to use say equal to 10%? Why bother? Unless it's like $500k or More...for after taxes ( 28%) what's it going to be worth in relation to the rest of your Port? How much of a Impact will it really have over-all? Was it worth the Risk?

Going to use & GAMBLE  $100k? And you make 50%? Wow! Super Huh? But, if you sell it and have to pay 28% CG Tx's? What's it Net worth?  = $36,000  and you have a $300k Total Port? It's only worth about a 12% Impact! Big deal! $36,000 at making 8% a yr after that is woirth How much NET ?  $2,880 - 21% Reg. Taxes = $2,275 yr!   Whoppie do!

Vs Let's say you screw up and Loose 50%? You now lost $50,000 = to  about 17% of your Lifetime savings forever! adn will have to work an extra Year or 2 to make it back ? At 40 hr wk job? 2-4,000 hours for Being GREEDY!  LOL and what would the Wife say and do if you lost that kind of $? since in theri minds , it's HER Retirement $!  For it isn't yours!  Since any $ you make is Her's and the Kids, Not yours!  LOL

And now we can't play in our shorts...(sic)  We can't short stocks like Financials and stocks like GGP and others? Bummer.. Can we play them Long? Sure, butt  what if GGP goes Belly Up? Will  that Stock be covered in the Bail Out?  If not?  Then your SOL.

Energy? Some say it will go up and end up about $130's by End of the Yr? .. So, play it Long? Ok, it picks up about 25% btwn now and then?   But, Better bet with some high 6 figures to make that worthwhile (and again after 28% taxes) Or Know how to play the Margin and Options game.

and I doubt your going to find very many willing to share, since would you want too? before you do it? Maybe  a month after...   How often do you allow others to step In Line ahead of you at Starbucks? Grocery Line? Waiting to go to the bathroom?

However, You can go rush to the NY times, Business section , on the Top 10 Best Books for Investing Top Seller lists, then Go to Amazon, order them, wait the few days to get them and read your Brains out in a Crash Course..( like in College Days)  and You Might find a few ideas in them.....

Remember the old saying? > Be Prepared !

eg: Prepared on what to do when market Crashes, Goes Up, what funds/stocks to buy, Options to play, etc.. What to do When your Fund Does a Hard Close, What funds to use to replace it? When the Fund Mgr. gets Indicted, The Mgr. Dies?  having emergency procedures in place!  So much to Do and so little time to do it...Oh My!

I've been thru some situations like these and others, and Just Decided that If I don't have a Plan already figured out, Gone over it several times before? Foreget about it!

Others might want to rush out to their Nearest Broker service and give them a suitcase of $ and tell them to Make as Much as you can with it...!

Me? I Just invest whatever $ I  want to gamble in the Funds/stocks you already have and proven faith in and settle for whatever they do..

And Live in Denial. & .Don't Look at all those other's that made 50% or more! "if I just had done this or that... If I had bought $100k into the PRO-FUNDS Short S&P 500 ETF Index fund? Could of Made 37% ? 50%?  how'd you feel missing out on all the Tech's in 97-99? Some funds made 300% and some stocks made 3,000%! and some who played Options made 3,000 X their Money! and some are still Lving in the Islands and are bored out of their brains, with nothing to do... ( I feel so sorry for them, don't you ? )

I like being "Long Term Greedy" , Since Short Term Didn't work out too well for me.

koz10:

With $65K at age 15, you seem to be doing alright.  I would make only two suggestions.

1. IMHO you have far too many funds.

2.  And most important:  Remember that the advise and suggestions you get over the internet are from strangers, people you don't know and will never know. People, though well intended, who have different risk levels, age, ideas and opinons of what makes a good portfolio.  Portfolios that may not be suited for you. So read what everyone has to say, but take the advise with a grain of salt and do what is best for you. Remember that this years big winners could be next years big losers.   I suspect that your best advisors will be your parents.

Good luck. I have a hunch you are going to do well.

What recession?

You're 15 and manage your own portfolio? How's that? Well, on second thought, someone has put you into these funds because this is one of the worst portfolios I've ever seen posted here. C shares are BAD and someone is ripping you off!

SO WHAT MUTUAL FUNDS DO YOU THINK WOULD MAKE MONEY ONCE STOCKS REBOUND??

Most all mutual funds will make money when the market rebounds. But with your funds, your broker/advisor will be getting a good share of your returns. You would greatly benefit from some investing education. That will carry you through the rest of your life.

Paul .. that is fine that you dont believe what age I am and you think my portfolio is bad.. I agree I have made some mistakes a couple years ago . But I am learning, and one thing I have always heard is that c shares are the way to go. What class would you invest in?

Hi Koz,

First, I would like to offer you a warm welcome to the forum!  Aslo, conrats on your great start!

Second, Please for you own sake, heed the warnings given above about taking advice on these forums, just use them to broaden your horizons, dont act on any advise blindly.

Third,  Forget what you 'heard' about C-shares and focus on just the facts, which you can find in the fund prospectus about share classes.  I might be willing to help you a bit, but first............tell me what makes C shares so great FOR YOU and who is advising you?

Brian
