Aug YTD at -5.7% for Anil

The bear market continues to hurt most investors, including yours truly. The results for my portfolio are 4% better than my bogey, FFNOX which is down 9.7% YTD. M* says my portfolio has outperformed 88% of similar mutual funds.

Recent transactions : Bot some NG stocks (ECA & SJT) as hurricane insurance. It appears that Gustav will go thru Gulf coast oil & gas production area and damage at least some of them. This will result in some production loss, driving up the prices. ECA & SJT have production assets away from the GC so their production should be unaffected, thus allowing their shares to benefit. ECA is a shorter term play than SJT which has a good yield.

My Portfofio AA: Cash 39.7%, bonds 12.4%, domestic stocks : 26.3% foreign stocks 19.4% and other at 2.2%. LC V/B/G at 19/21/18. MC V/B/G at 9/9/7 and SC V/B/G at 7/5/4. ER = 0.96% and yield is at 1.86%. Best wishes ..... Anil

Recent transactions : Bot some NG stocks (ECA & SJT) as hurricane insurance early last week. I expect hurricane Gustav to have a significant impact on oil & gas production facilities in the US Gulf. If NG production is down, NG prices should go up, helping both the stocks. Both ECA & SJT have their NG production out of Gustav's path. ECA is a short term trade. SJT is more of a longer term income play, with the price being right for this time of year before the winter run-up. Rest is unchanged.

Portfolio's Asset Allocations are listed below. ER is at 0.96%, yield at 1.86%. LCV/B/G at 19/21/18, MC V/B/G at 9/9/7 and SC V/B/G at 7/5/4 ..... Anil

 Cash : 39.7
 U.S. Stocks : 26.3
 Foreign Stocks : 19.4
 Bonds : 12.4

Looks like you are including parts of your shared portfolio, how do you do that?

To see my portfolio at M*, click on the suitcase next to my name and there will be 4 names that will come. The last one, AK-Test3 is my real life portfolio. AK-Aspire1 is my aspiration portfolio (i.e. where I will aspire to be in a few years) based on recent AA in Mike's (mgfreema) portfolio.

How do you create such a portfolio? First create a transaction portfolio with your holdings. Then export that portfolio to Excel, change the initial portfolio date to say 1/1/2000 or 1/1/1998 so that you get to see how it would have behaved in the past. Then import the modified portfolio from Excel. Then share it. There are new tabs now that allow you to share your portfolio. M* Darrin and others have talked about this feature extensively in Morningstar.com. Best luck ... Anil
