Yes Marc.. IF you need a Balanced fund to make the decisions for you on your Allocations of Being into Both Equities and Bonds..( do you need a 60/40 Port?)
It's APY of about 10% over the past 10 yrs doesn't tell the whole story.. It how it did in Bear markets..that counts to me as well as getting near S&P rtns in Bull markets.
That being said? There are others out there... Like LAALX, PRWCX,FBALX, VWELX, that although may not have the same "safe harbors" in Bear markets, but have outperformed for the long term. and have lower Costs/Fees.
Size matters... as these Popular funds gow, so does it become harder for them to outperform...thus I like Adam Bolds comment... Invest in 3 of them
If one is Decent with Indexing? Can get the same or better rtns as OAKBX..
Inotherwords? Don't put all your eggs in one basket..Look for new Up and comming Funds.. Ormaybe Oakmark will open a 2nd Balanced Fund and Close OAKBX? Like Leuthold Did?
I'd like to see this fund Close...being of the selfish in mind.... And owing Magellon in it's Golden Yrs and look what happened to it.. and how about D&C's > DODBX..
It appears most funds are good for their first 10 or so yrs and then they slack off and barely do as well as their peers/Indexes... wether it's due to being To Big or maybe their Mgrs/owners become Burned out or Just complacent making 5x more than they ever imagined...
Yes, I do won An equal % allocation in OAKBX, but I also Own LAALX & PRWCX..
Hopeing LAALX is the next up & comming Bal >Fund..Only time will tell..
