Perhpas the new forum was causing them to stay on the computer too long and going past their hourly allotment and they had to prematurely log off to save energy!

I agree some what with M* Darrin, not my favorite forum, but a couple of posts a few months ago did give me a real laugh.  I dont mean that in a disrespectful way, I mean they really were funny......something about a steak .....and another guy who ruffled some feathers on another thread was really funny.

I have become more of a tightwad the past two years, and I felt better about that when someone we know just got foreclosed on for living above their means!  Sucks to be them!

Have fun

Brian

I love a good deal.  In fact, I have a sort of Chinese way about buying things, where I don't feel buying something nice is cool...unless I get it cheap.  By the way, please believe me, I mean this as a compliment to Chinese people.  I found out this accidental kinship once, when someone complimented me on my shoes.  I shot back that I got them for 60% off, and they are all leather, etc.  I just could not help myself.  The two Americans present seemed to find this vaguely distasteful, but the two Chinese with me were THRILLED!  We talked about this for quite awhile. Man...I thought...these are my people.

Getting a good deal is like hunting to me.  In contrast, my wife hates shopping...totally.  She does not even like walking though a store.  I don't like her along, she wrecks my shopping mojo.

Good news on deals.  More retail stores are getting really cheap, like Costco.  Also, online shopping has really dropped prices.  Bad news on deals.  My beloved garage sales are not what they once were.  I used to buy everything at garage sales.  Guns, liquor (partied at a garage sale), clothes, food, art, shoes, underwear (just kidding), lots and lots of books.  But now there seems to be less good stuff.  I think EBay is skimming off a lot of it.

I just found a cool new furniture store in LA, called Barn Furniture.  It seems to have some nice things are reasonable prices.  That is where I am heading this weekend.

Oh!  Tightwad Tips:

Fluorescent bulbs, Rotisserie Chickens and Pizzas at Costco.  Also, the Kirkland suitcases they sell at Costco are just excellent.  I travel a lot, and my current case is just fantastic.  It has lasted longer than all my other previous suitcases.  The Pur water filters at Costco are a significant amount up front, but are FAR cheaper than bottled water.  Yes, I even wash out my previously used bottles, and use the filtered water to refill.

I can give a few that have worked for me over the yrs.;  1. Consume as little as possible and if you accumulate too much, have a garage sell or sell it on Ebay.  2. Do your own $hit. Never pay for anything you can do or learn to do yourself. I have never paid for an oil change(and I'm 50.) The last hair cut I paid for was in Mar.1980.  3. Don't waste money on vices like smoking, drinking, drugs, gambling, etc.  4. Take care of yourself. Eat healthy and exercise. Eat a plant based diet. You don't have to eliminate meat, just less of it. Your food and energy bill will decrease. Many of your ailments will disappear, it will save American oil and it's better for the planet(which is on loan from our kids).  5. Pay out as little interest as possible, but earn it instead. Interest never sleeps. Buy a used car and pay cash, instead of making new car payments(and more insurance).  6. Be frugal with energy. Make your home(and auto) energy efficient and eliminate energy guzzlers. We don't own a dishwasher, disposal or clothes dryer(have an outside and inside clothes line instead). I bike to work as much as possible(5 days last wk.).  7. Water food not grass. 1/3 of our backyard and all the alley strip is planted in vegetables and fruit. The front yard is next.  8. Always try to buy quality and take care of your stuff. It will last longer and save your money.  9. Always try to buy stuff that has a lifetime warranty, like Craftsman tools and water hoses. Same goes for auto parts or front end alignments, etc.  10. Never stop learning and growing. Always count your blessings and pay it forward.
