When the history of the 21st century is written, there may be mention of something called the Valerie Plame affair. In this scandal, member(s) of the Bush Administration supposedly "leaked" the identity of a secret, covert CIA agent to get back at her husband, Joe Wilson for criticizing the war in Iraq.
Problem. It never happened. As Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald discovered, no one leaked anything. Plame, it turns out, was not a secret, covert anything. Her identity was not a secret. She had a desk job. No one has been charged and no one will be charged for "outing" Valerie Plame. All we have now is a flimsy perjury and obstruction of justice case against Scooter Libby, *** Cheney's former Chief of Staff. Even that looks like it's headed nowhere.
But yet, there is still a fascination with the case. And a new book is out, written by Newsweek's Michael Isikoff and The Nation's David Corn. In it, we get some juicy tidbits about who said what and to whom. For instance, Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage is said to be the one who first "leaked" Valerie Plame's name to Robert Novak.
Not Scooter Libby. Not Karl Rove. Not George W. Bush. Richard Armitage. You can hear the hopes and dreams of the impeachment crowd deflating as we speak. Armitage is not even really a big supporter of George W. Bush's war policy and is considered a moderate.
And yet Armitage was never charged. There you have it: the main figure in this non-scandal was Richard Armitage, some guy most people have never heard of at the State Department. So much for all the controversy.
Maybe some of the polls saying that Dems will not win as much as they say, are a result of the Dem bungling of this type of scenario.

I learned the following two things from this affair:
The Bush Whitehouse is very good at covering its tracks.
There are a lot of hypocrites out there.

Watch for the Democrats and the liberal media to claim that it's time to "put this issue behind us". Just like Reach4theKoolaid in Reply #1 above, the liberals will continue to delude themselves that Plame was outed by the White House. shoving a mike in front of Pelosi and Reid, asking them if they plan to apologize to the nation for their lies about Rove?
Those two clowns were on TV every day for 4 weeks complaining about Bush and Rove. Their attempt to polarize the nation failed. The Repubs should set aside a fund for the specific purpose of undermining any new administration and polarizing the nation as a whole, in order to destroy any attempts at governing.

It is absolutely amazing just how WRONG the opposition has been.
So many accusations, so many surefire "gotchas" that simply faded away. Disappointment has been experienced time and time and time again by his detractors.
Yet, surprisingly, even after being such losers in their efforts to undermine his administration, there still exists the enthusiasm to continue their pursuit.
Wow, their hatred has blinded them.
Can you imagine the success they could have enjoyed had they turned their efforts towards articulating a good message for the voters to consider? Had their efforts been channeled properly, they would have enjoyed success again at controlling all three branches of the government. Oh, my mistake. We all know the judiciary is neutral.

1. The prosecutor never found a crime related to the original concern to accuse anyone of;
2. The prosecutor knew from the beggining who the original source of information was;
3. The prosecutor went after other folks, folks HE KNEW wern't the original souce, and eventually found an inconsistency in Libby's statements over the past several years, which resulted in the only charges.
Am I the only one who thinks the prosecutor abused his authority?

4. The prosecutor was ordered to investigate the crime.
5. Several high ranking officials in the Bush administration tried to obstruct the investigation by lying to investigators and the Grand Jury.
6. It is still not clear how many officials in the Bush administration participated in the leak.
7. It is clear that there is plenty of evidence to suggest that the government tried to use its vast resources to silence a critic. The Whitehouse was caught red-handed gathering information on Valarie Plame.
8. It is also clear that the Whitehouse was never interested in discovering the source of the leak, despite many public statements to the contrary. Some folks may say that this makes Bush a liar.

Re #4: He was ordered to investigate a POSSIBLE crime, and he was never able to estabkish that a crime occured.
Re. #5: CLEARLY DESCRIBE ONE LIE! Plus, do you think your statements would be 100% consistent ifseveral years from now, under repeated questioning?
Re. #6: Try blaming WILSON. Or, blame the liberal from the State Department (who now admits he was the source).
Re #7: It is abundantly clear that Clinton holdovers in the State Department and CIA set out to hinder the administration, even putting out false information (which Wilson clearly is guilty of).
