Hi,

Is anybody recently accessed the OID website?
Its been down for quite a while now and nothing is accessible.

I tried calling them a few times but I keep getting their machine.

Have they closed shop?

thanks.

OID is Outstanding Investor Digest - something that Buffett highly recommends. Maybe someone on this list reads it and might know if they are still around.

I haven't heard or read anything, but the website does appear to be down. I visited the site earlier this year to reread some of the free transcripts. At the time, the website was up and running.

The site was pretty "out-of-date", so it's possible that it is simply being revamped. Of course, it's also possible that the people running OID have called it quits.

It could be that more people are turning to Tilson's "Digest", Value Investor Insight. It's in the same vein as OID, and most likely appeals to the same crowd. (I'm not saying Buffett reads it or would recommend it, but then again, neither would surprise me either.) You can take a look at a free issue or two by visiting the VII site.

I've read about half a dozen VII issues. Sometimes the interviews are good, and sometimes I haven't enjoyed them that much. I've contemplated a subscription a couple of times, but it's a pretty steep price for entertainment. Some will tell you that it is an invaluable source to learn how great investors think. You can definitely get a flavor for how some decent investors think, but most are not giving away any secrets. Mostly what you'll find is promoting of stocks in which these guys have already built substantial positions.

Hope this helps,
'tato

I am a subscriber and do love the stuff that they print.

I was just wondering if anyone on this list had heard/read anything about OID going away.

The web site is back up, but sadly out of date.  These guys haven't published a new issue since summer of 2006.  I understand their "philisophy" of only publishing when there is enough good material, but please, this is pathetic.  Has there been nothing worthy of publication in a year and half?  Or has Value Investor Insight already published it all?  The most "outstanding" investment idea from OID has to be their business model: take subscribers' money and sit on it for a few years while contemplating whether ever to publish again....  They should be ashamed.
