World Series of Poker on TV

Three decades ago, I used to participate in a local game on Saturdays called Texas Hold-Em.

And now, in retirement, I enjoy watching the World Series of Poker events on TV that features the now famous Texas Hold-Em game.

Recently I purchased a book for $9.95 at a large bookstore called, World Series of Poker Official Guidebook Collector's Edition. The book lists among other things the WSOP main event winners, WSOP money leaders, WSOP bracelet leader list, etc. At the back is a picture section of all the top pros along with place for each autograph. Great little book if you are interested in the WSOP events.

Does anyone know how much the 21 year old young man won at the 2009 WSOP main event?

Since Yahoo's last upgrade to their homepage I am not getting any "new mail" icon anymore. I have to check once in a while for mail.

Anybody else notice this? Or mabye it's just something I'm getting with a slow speed connection.

I've had it with lukewarm drip coffee. Apparently it doesn't matter if it's Bunn, Mr. Coffee, or any other electric drip coffee maker. They just don't get the water hot enough to bring out the full flavor of the coffee bean.

Right now I'm using a stove-top percolator. It works great and makes the best coffee in town. The design is 100 years old, no moving parts, no problems.

Except I would like a little more convenience. Thirty years ago we used an electric Corning percolator -- the porcelain one -- worked fine. Sadly, it died of old age.

According to the reviews the new Farberware electric percs are made overseas and the quality is not what they used to be.

I'm looking for a high quality automatic electric percolator, 8-cup is fine. 12-cup is somewhat large and I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. Does anyone know of a good coffee maker?

What is Santa Claus bringing down the chimney this year? We got some shopping money coming in next paycheck. I was in a Bed Bath and Beyond with about 500 gals and I couldn't keep my bearings. I kept knocking stuff over looking at what the gals had in their carts. I felt like general Custer I tell ya. Mama mia. Next time I am having 4 Bacardis first. Yahoo!

Virtual Account Numbers

Maryland Bank has one, so does Bank of America and Citibank. What's that you ask? Virtual Account software that you can put on your computer to use while shopping on line or on the phone. Actually a VAN is good for anywhere you want to use it.

For those I haven't bored silly with this, here's how it goes. In my case, I have a Citi card and a Citibank Virtual Account icon on my desktop. When I want to order something on line or over the phone, I pull up the icon and ask Citi for a VAN. It can be used ONE TIME only, except for a return. You can put a limit on the amount, too.

Here's what happened to me the other day. I used my VAN over the phone when I paid annually for a subscription. The amount was $117. I got a call from the publication, saying my card had been denied. Did I want to put up another credit card? NO!

I immediately went on line to Citi and they said they had never denied anything for me. I called the publication back and said run the card again. I looked on line and the $117 charge went through.

I'm not done. A few days later, I got a letter from this group saying I owed an extra $25 and that they had tried to run my card (heh heh) but Citibank did deny it this time, since you can only use the VAN one time.

I cannot tell you how much peace of mind I have when using my virtual account number. I use it to book hotels, order on line and over the phone.

Hope this can help someone. Ask your credit card company.

Got a shocker in mail from PCP today. Testing 2 weeks ago shows elevated glucose blood sugar levels. PCP wants to put me on Glucophage 1000mg. Is it possible some cough drops taken on way to testing could have thrown numbers off. I observed the fasting guidelines. Just wondering anyone's experience with med; side effects; how taken; how often; how long. I take as few pills as I have to. 52 years old. I have sit-down with PCP next week. Thanks for anyone sharing their experience.

I own both of these funds and find it hard to understand how Morningstar rates these two. Loomis Sayles gets 3 stars for giving their customers far more money than 5 star Putnam customers are receiving for their investment. It's not even close!!!!!!

I upgraded several months ago. But when get my Yahoo mail it says to upgrade at the top of the page. I am sure I am upgraded because it has the Bing thing at the top right of the page & M* stopped giving me the upgrade message.

Just a quirk at Yahoo?
