I am building up a small position in OAKBX--my target is 5%--in my Fidelity IRA account. I could see from the portfolio info available that some of the Treasury Notes in this fund are Inflation-Protected, and some aren't. I was curious to know what percentage of the entire portfolio is TIPS; so I recently communicated directly with Oakmark on this questions, and got a reply:

"As of 6/30/09, there are four Inflation Indexed United States Treasury Notes totaling 14.85% in Oakmark Equity & Income Fund's fixed income portfolio. The fixed income portion represents 39.71% of the entire portfolio."

(I clarified with Oakmark that the 14.85% figure refers to 14.85% of the entire portfolio.)

I am usually like a "sponge" on these forums: soaking up info, but not giving much back; so I thought I'd pass along this tidbit of information in case it is useful to others.

OAKGXManaged by Clyde McGregor, Rob TaylorKL

The March 31 Wall Street Journal Fund Track column reported that “investors in international and global stock funds…need to keep a close eye on the U.S….because, in the view of fund managers, an international recovery will get under way only once the U.S. economy stops its fall. The U.S. accounts for an estimated one-fifth of the global economy and is the world’s largest importer. Until it stabilizes, say managers of mutual funds that focus on global stocks, investors shouldn’t expect outperformance from other regions.” While this argument seems sensible, its conclusion was not supported by first quarter ’09 outcomes. During the quarter, the Chinese stock market rallied strongly, despite the depressed conditions in the markets for its exports. In addition, several commodity-sensitive markets, including Russia and Brazil, did well even though the U.S., Europe, and Japan experienced double digit stock market declines. Rather than attempt to make the sort of macro judgments described in the WSJ column, we focus on identifying mis-priced stocks wherever they may be found. While macro factors may swamp value in the short term, we know that over the long term disciplined value investing is a sustainable foundation for success.

Am I Crazy ? 38yrs w/ 2 Children

Hi all, I have been reading through this forum for many years and have learned a great deal from the many helpful posts that I have looked through.

semidev

AT/D&SS is the official 10 year "return after taxes on distributions and sale of fund shares".

Semideviation is a measure of downside risk. In a below average year, 38% of the time a fund would have a return between its average and 1 semideviation below its average, 68% of the time between its average and 2 semideviations below it, 87% of the time between its average and 3 semideviations below it, and 95% of the time between its average and 4 semideviations below it.

The nine year correlation matrix is:

I have 20+ yrs to retirement and the bulk of my retirement (by a HUGE margin) is in my 403b with TIAA-CREF.

I was considering starting an account in OAKWX so I could add Nygren and Herro to the mix and I like that the fund has only 20 stocks. I realize there's some overlap with OAKGX but that might be fine.

I also was considering OAKLX because I believe in Nygren long term and the funds performed pretty bad the last few years so now's a better time to start then at the top. Again, I like concentrated funds.

Also I am considering OAKBX because of all the reasons that make it such a fantastic fund (maybe one of the best balanced funds there is...I dunno). The thing I don't like about it is the assets size. Everybody and their grandmother wants this fund these days. The other issue is, I already have Mcgregor's expertise in OAKGX and would like to take advantage of Herro and Nygren if I could.

Maybe I shouldn't do anything...maybe I should just max out my Roth with OAKGX. I have two other funds in taxable accounts by the way (FAIRX & RYVFX) and I am super pleased with them as well.

Any thoughts, opinions, rude comments (just kidding about the rude part).

Clem

03/02/09 Buy Signal 4 OAKBX?

Well, got anther Buy Signal For OAKBX for 03/03/09-Monday's close

And Like they did > "in Rode the 600 into the valley of Death" so did I go and follow the Plan..

What's the Plan?

With New $ for 09':

"buying ( adding to) on the Dips of when it breaks $20 PPS & per Market Sentiment ( IOW Guessing) in 25% Increments "

Bought last week - 25%

Just bought today with another 25%

Keeping fingers crossed

also dumb enough to add to UAPIX and 3 other Funds I gots..

Good news? We only have about 707 pts on the S&P to Be put out of our misery..

Bad News? This game keeps bouncing along the bottom to sucker me in 110% and then it goes another 25% lower...and stays there for the rest of the Yr..

IF the S&P market bottoms around 650? What's another 8% or about -4% more for OAKBX vs in a Few Yrs it will be Up +50%....

see, I can justify buying anything..!

I called in my Purchase and the Girl I talked to? I siad I must be about 1 out of 10 callers to be buying and the rest are selling? She said.. That's about right ... So much for LT & B&H investors in Their Fund..

ironically? We're at 12 yr lows? It was 12 yrs ago My Wife died.. Wonder if that's an Omen for me?

Best of Luck!

Looks Right now, we're going to need it and alot more..

PS.I love how they had an exec of AIG on CNBC giving his Opinions on the market and How to Invest....and Skating on wether or not they will need More $ than the recent $30 bill they just got...

And how China Is trying to buy everything on the US soil..? Why doesn't Pres. Obama buy Up all of Europe and Russia's Co.'s in the Process vs Giving $600 Billion in Earmarks to His Dem. Congressmen and Women..?

Or Buy Russia's/Canada's/Saudi Oil Companies? They'll have to use that $600 B to buy our Food and McDonalds meals...

Trade in OAKGX for PRGSX ?

I am considering trading in my shares of Oakmark Global and investing the proceeds in T. I got the confirmation in the mail that my account was set up and I thought all was well. On July 16th, I received a letter in the mail stating that due to the patriot act and possibility for money laundering blah blah blah, they needed me to send a photocopy of my social security card to verify my SSN I had provided within 10 business days from the date of the letter (dated July 9th) or my account would be terminated. I thought for sure this was some phishing scam (identity theft anybody??) but called them to make sure it was legit, and it was. Too bad 5 business days had already been eaten up by the postal service and too bad I misplaced my actual card. I have never needed the actual card, birth certificate and drivers license were enough but of course I can't send them that. Knowing that it would take 6-8 weeks to get a new card, I sent my 2007 w2's instead. Well tonight I attempt to log in and get an error message so I just know they closed my account and I'm sure taken out all the early redemption fees etc.

I can't believe this has happened. It was never disclosed on their website that I would need to send them this. The only thing I can find is that under disclosures, it says if you don't provide an ID on your application (which I did), then you have 60 days to prove it or else they will withhold for IRS purposes. Nothing about closing an account. If I had known I would have needed to do this BEFORE the account was opened, I would have waited until I got the SS card first. And like I said earlier, I'm sure they tagged me for all the fees they could before closing the account. I am terribly upset about this and haven't been able to find any other posts about this online so I'm not sure how often it happens or if I was just singled out for whatever reason. I didn't have any trouble opening a roth with TRP so I will just stick to them.

OAK ETF's ?

Hi All,

Is there the equivalent of OAK ETFs ?

I did some looking around but cound not find anything of the sort ?

Thanks for any tips.
Marcus

Why are funds till closed to new investors?

I was just wondering what the logic of funds like OAKBX
& LCROX being closed to new investors when the markets are in total free
fall. Wouldn’t you want the possibility
of getting some fresh money into your funds to avoid selling your assets under
stress to those abandoning the ship?
