Aracruz, Brazil, NYSE Symbol ARA

I recently purchased 50 ARA shares on the NYSE; now, the last quote I can get for them is from November 17/09. Some research shows that Aracruz was bought out by VCP and has been renamed Fibria, trading under FBR on the NYSE. The FBR shares trade for considerably less then the Nov 17 share price for ARA.

Does anyone know if ARA was converted to FBR, and at what rate they were converted? With my shares being ARA, can I trade them as ARA, or do I have to convert them to FBR?

Are 5 star M* ratings really useful

I am very disappointed in the safety of so many of the 5star M* stocks that have been devastated in my portfolio. Over the past several years I have seen this repeated many times. I would have thought that to achieve the 5 Star rating some signicant degree of safety would be built in. I know you can't fight the tape but it has been so dissapointing to see this so often. After 4 years with this as a foundation I realize they are no better to me that the opinions in the lay business magazines like 'Money". I used to consider selling reather then buying a stock when a broker or other type person called to push a stock. I would not go that far with the M* star ratings but they kind of suck in my experience. My overall portfolio for 2007 is down about 15%, and yes I am heavy in financials. Anyway i am anxiously awaiting their reports of how their 5 stars have preformed. drjay

I've been tempted from time to time to buy YUM as a play of China growth, although Yum Brands' domestic revenues are down. Today (Oct. 16) is record date for the next dividend (2.4% yield).

Other possibilities on pullbacks: Dolby Laboratories (DLB), E.I. du Pont (DD), and PG&E (PCG).

An Argentine oil company that has good bottom line, but is very thinly traded. Moody's likes their balance sheet and they have a yearly dividend that is above average.

Today they are trading ~8x volume. No reason that I can see.

Anyone have any insights?

TRA -- Special Dividend

Terra Industries has a planned special dividend for 12/14 of $7.50. The stock is currently at ~$36 per share. I have owned it for a while and have a nice profit.

Question is: When the special dividend is paid, will the stock price drop by $7.50. I know this is what "should" happen, but since this is a return of excess cash, perhaps the total dividend is not in the share price.

Sell now and I can take advantage of Long Term Cap Gains, or hold and accept the dividend and pay the taxes on that.

The stock is performing well and I anticipate that it will continue to in the future.

Thoughts appreciated.

Growth of $10,000 invested in a stock chart (historical)?

Does anyone know where i can find a chart that shows if someone invested a dollar amount (ie: $10k) into a specific stock at a specific date (in history), what that would be worth today? I'm not finding anything on the internet except charts that show stock price, but doesnt show the growth of the dollar (take into account stock splits & dividends paid). I'm doing some research on successful IPO's and need some statistical data. Thank you for helping me.

Industry Averages for the Soft Drinks Industry 07 & 08

Hi,

I'm an accounting student who had a project to compare liquidity, solvency, and profitability ratios for two companies. I used Coke & Pepsi, 2007 & 2008.

The next part is to compare the industry as a whole to the two companies. Is there a website I can use for that? I was able to get all the info for the companies on Yahoo Finance, but for the industry as a whole, I'm struggling.

Where to find Standard Deviation of stocks?

Does anyone know where I can find the standard deviation for specific stocks? I know that morningstar uses SD in their calculations but I can't find the actual values anywhere.

Anyone plan of picking up (or adding more) GE soon? They got rocked yesterday even though they beat earnings. GE Capital is still messed up on the real estate side but every other arm is profitable so they say. I'm looking to get some as a longer-term hold since they are so obviously on the forefront of 'clean' energy.
