Sorry to say but I am not qualified to answer your question about timing of additional investments in AF's. I am a recent retiree and American investor in short term bond fund (ASBAX), Income Fund of America (AMECX), and Capital Income Builder (CAIBX). I have only recently begun to invest in AMECX and CAIBX and still several months away from reaching my planned allocation. Because I have very little in equities, this down market persents a good buying opportunity for me. I had planned to DCA into Bond Fund of America too (ABNDX), but the likelyhood of near term interest rate increases will keep me out for some time. Frankly, ABNDX looks like an under-performer anyway and I'm kind of glad my plans were postponed. I doubt I will invest there even when rates settle down. I do however like their Capital World Bond Fund (CWBFX)
I was reviewing the performance of AMECX and CAIBX last evening and comparing them to other funds in their classes and wondered if I have made the right choice in those funds. Time will tell. I felt very good about my decision to invest with American 3 months ago, but the more comparisons I do, the more concerned I become that I may have acted hastily. Now today I read your post and I'm encouraged by your optimism. I vacillate between optimism and pessimism, and it's nice to know that others are so positive.
Good luck with your decisions.
