I'm about the same age as you.  A major lesson I've learned is Buffet's Rule #1, "Don't lose money."  Despite the fact that we have many years ahead of us, think of the opportunity cost of money lost, compounded over decades.  That's why I believe even for us young investors, it pays to be risk-conscious.
