oxymoron:
Mark49: "Let somebody else take the heat for a change. Let somebody else take over the role of World Cop, and go broke spreading their way of life around the world. Let somebody else be the rogue state, the bete-noir of the civilized world."
There is nobody else. We are it. We can either retreat or attack. Radical Islam has declared war on the West, and our strategy since 9/11 has worked. If we retreat, they will come after us. I had rather take the war to them.

America's stature in the world fallen off a cliff. Hatred and animus of the middle east inflamed. Iran's power and influence on the rise. 4000+ Americans and 100,000+ Iraqi dead. Oil at $4 a gallon. Our economy in shambles.
Saddam was not radical Islam. He was a secularist. This war has nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with the projection of American power. Were we truly the greatest nation on earth we wouldn't feel the need to have to prove it. And without us, there would be no war. Remember it is we who have been over there the last 50+ years. Not the other way around.
Oil is $140 a barrel, gas is $4 a gallon, and the reason is demand from India and China has outstripped supply. Nothing tho do with Iraq or Afghanistan. Before the surge, all I heard from the Left was that Iraq was "creating" terrorists. BS, we and the Iraqis killed them and those coming into Iraq from Syria have dropped from 120 a month to 20 a month. Iran's power and influence is on the rise? Haven't seen anything to corroborate that, sounds like an unfounded argument. Saddam was deposed for numerous reasons, but radical Islamic terrorism wasn't one of them. How soon we re-write history. You equate our response to Saddam and the Taliban, each for different reasons, with "proving ourselves"? You are saying that because the West (not just the US) has been in the Middle East for over 50 years doing business, that we, and not the Islamic terrorists, are responsible for 9/11? We declared war on ourselves? The Saudis invited us there to drill for their oil, you know. They didn't have the technical ability to get it out of the ground. Or are you saying that because Saudi Arabia asked the West to drive out Saddam from Kuwait, and offered us bases to do so, that it is our fault Osama bin Laden planned and financed the attack that killed 5,000 Americans? The comment that "we" have been "there" for the past 50 years, and this somehow makes us guilty of something, does not make any historical sense.
