Gloomy as the outlook for the GOP is and despite a potential dem landslide a filibuster proof senate for the dems requires a gain of AT LEAST TEN SEATS if not one or two more given that Lieberman will vote with republicans on war appropriations bills. Even with a dem landslide a gain of eleven or twelve seats for the dems is a very steep hill to climb; it's possible but not very likely.
Divided government or gridlock, anyone?; MAYBE, but if the repubs play the filibuster card too frivolously then they face charges of obstructionism in the next round of mid terms and that might put them deeper in the hole perhaps at last tipping the senate into filibuster-proof territory for the dems. And if that happens then the repubs can just go home for the last two years of Bambi's term as they will not be able to stop nearly anything Bambi and the dems legislate. So they better use that tool very carefully and strategically.
Peace and love,
