Show the calulations using the Vanguard Balance Index fund vs a few of the top balanced managed funds like Oakmark E/I or TRP's Capital Appreciation.

Not really fair to compare VG Balanced (essentially100% domestic stocks) with OAKBX which has almost 14% int'l. http://tinyurl.com/yqr7os

Even PRWCX is not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Not sure I agree, Greg, that you can't compare OAKBX vs VG Bal Index. They each fall into the same category, and each fund is based on the approach that best fits the firm's vision of what makes a good balanced fund.  VBINX has chosen to track the MSCI U.S. Broad Market Index  and the Lehman Aggregate Bond Index, while Oakmark has a totally differ approach. The "apples to apples" line is weak and a over used line that doesn't always fit the circumstance.
