I can't agree with that, and I don't know many Conservatives who will. A "slight veer" may be accurate, but no "hard right". The only thing that comes to mind is his willingness to drill for oil in places he once opposed. This is nothing like Obama's moves. The difference, I think, is McCain will sustain his position after the election. I don't believe Obama.

 

As for Conservative thought, you may be absolutely correct. But it may depend on which window of time this is judged by....the McCain position of .2006...or 2008, along with how many changes represent a veer  vs. a wholesale shift to the right.

His differences as compared to mainstream GOP beliefs have shrunk to where you can count them on one hand, with a few fingers left over.
