A Ringo Story:  Once Upon A Time...

...in '64 when The Beatles came to LA to play the Hollywood Bowl, there was a mob scene at LAX to greet them.  LIttle did the girls know that lookalikes were used and the real Fab 4 were spirited away to a hotel just a few miles from the airport until they could be transferred safely to the home in the Hollywood Hills they were leasing.

My aunt managed the coffee shop at the hotel.  While John, Paul, and George (hubba hubba) kept to themselves and stayed in their rooms, Ringo came down to the restro, sat at the counter, and chatted with everyone.  She asked him to sign a menu for me.  Not only did he autograph it, he wrote a litle message too.  At the height of worldwide Beatlemania, Ringo was sweet, humble, glad for his good fortune, and very funny, according to her report.

So happy birthday, Mr. Starkey,  to a kind man who evidently is leading a happy life these days.

And you two young dudes, Tony and Flakey, savor your Saturday.
