Portfolio Sharing Preview M*_Darrin  07-01-2008, 12:06 PM | Post #2534460

Thanks everyone for your patience.  In about a month we will be launching a new tool that allows folks to opt-in to sharing their transaction portfolio(s), which should ease contests as well as help new users ask for suggestions and feedback. Dollar amounts will be hidden to protect privacy, with a focus instead on the holdings, percentages, and total return factoring in buy/sell dates. As part of the portfolio sharing feature, we’ll show different data points like return, style (category), turnover, yield, allocation type, and a Morningstar Rating for Portfolios that works in a similar way to the fund star rating. Users will be able to ask the manager questions via a blog, and will see a breakdown, by percentage, of holdings in an Instant X-Ray.

All shared portfolios will be visible through a listings page that allows you to compare all shared portfolios side-by-side, or just those in a particular group (or contest).  You can also opt to just share your portfolio with certain users as well as hide your star rating if you’d rather not disclose it.

I kept these contests in mind while developing this feature and believe it supports them well.  You can setup a unique contest portfolio in the portfolio tool with all your purchases for a year, or multiple years.  Then you can share it in Discuss and identify that you are part of a particular contest (or contests).  Now when people search for that contest your portfolio will show up alongside all the other participants, creating a single place to see daily updates.  Every change in each user's portfolio will automatically be carried over to Discuss, with data using yesterday’s close.

I’ve included a picture below of what this new interface will look like. This phase one includes a number of data points, a growth of $10k graph, an Instant X-Ray (which is cut off in the bottom image), etc.  If you have a data point in mind that you’d like to see, let me know as we are already working on a list of additional features to include in a later launch.

Thank you for your input!
