Pete:

I asked people to vote on this IF they were interested in seeing it continue.  When I checked back after an absence and saw that the number of votes had gone up, I took this as an indication that people were interested in seeing it continue.

As far as my altruistic motives...I did think about this comment.  You are correct that I make money if people buy my software and I refer to my software in my posts.  When John Bogle encourages people to buy index funds, he is is much the same situation.  Bogle makes money when people buy Vanguard funds, following the core philosopies in his books and essays.  Does this mean that his perspective is suspect?  Not to me.  I do not own Vanguard funds but I like many of Mr. Bogle's essays and more than one of his books.

Rob Arnott's work on fundamental indexing is another example.  Arnott benefits if people buy RAFI indexes, so does this throw his analysis of fundamental indexing and market efficiency into some form of doubt?  Do we criticize him because his book, The Fundamental Index is "non-altruistic"?

It is good to know where peoples' interests are aligned, but this does not, IMHO, make opinions that are "non-altruistic" invalid.

Regards,

 Geoff
