A few weeks ago, the financial pundits were jabbering about the pitiful return of TIPS relative to equities and higher-risk bonds. I followed the advice of Janet Yellen of the San Francisco Fed to hold high-quality debt. I think Pimco's Mohamed El-Erian's proposal to devote at least a 5% allocation to TIPS is prudent. My daughter, wife, and I hold American Century's ACITX, T. Rowe Price's PRIPX, the etf TIP, and Vanguard's VIPSX in various accounts.
