If we learned anything, and liberals did not, from the Reagan tax cuts, it's that people avoid high tax rates. What a revelation. Cutting the tax rates generates more income over time than increasing the tax rates. Flat, no deduction, tax rates force people to make economic decisions, not tax decisions. High tax rates result in the tail wagging the dog. Liberals may FEEL better, thinking they are soaking the rich, but the reality is that wealthy people AVOID high tax rates. Rangel thinks he's going to "fine tune" the tax laws to get what he wants, as if people will not make rational decisions to avoid those taxes. He makes a static analysis of a dynamic economy, believing that if he does X, it will result in Y, when taxpayers will really give him a Z. Libs live in economic Lalaland.
