This is exactly why i titled my thesis, "The Worst Generation" as a pun off of Brokaw's book. The current generation that are senior citizens are close to becoming one, age 55-70 are the worst. These are the babyboomers and people born during the great depression but werent old enough to know what was going on.
They have done more harm to this country than Carter could do in 100 terms (and by extension Obama). When the sixties came about, they had just lived through the roaring 50's, and a new form of capitalism had been created, one that swtiched from a demand capitalism to a supply capitalism. My meaning here is that the average consumer's buying habits changed from focusing on buying only things they needed to buying things they wanted. This created a huge sense of entitlement mentality. One that Mr. Flakey here is demonstrating for me in spades.
This generation created the medicare and medicaid crisis that we currently have. But it wasnt enough. They deserve the best thats out there and they dont care how they get it. This is the attitude that they began displaying, and continue to obviously to today. TV is one of the main drivers for this attitude. They see 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous' and think, "Why dont i live like that?". Its NOT FAIR!
Thus, the envy of those that have, versus those that have not. The top 1% of income earners already pay 39% of all income taxes. BUT THATS NOT ENOUGH! They should pay more for it to be FAIR! What is fair then?
We need to return to a personal responsibility mentality the focuses on ambition, effort and hard work, and motivation. It has been lost on the older generation. I just hope the younger one doesn't follow in their footsteps.
