Hydrogen, solar, wind, electric. Even nuclear and natural gas are better energy alternatives in cases.
These technologies work. But they need investment and development. The issue is that to make such a radical paradigm shift in the face of entrenched, vested powers and short-term thinking requires leadership.
The world will switch to these alternative energy sources. When it happens and who leads the way are a matter of vision and commitment. Solutions that reinforce the existing paradigm take energy and will from the more important task.
The Big 3 knows alternative energy is coming. But they had been making all their money on big trucks. So they kept their focus on big trucks. Meanwhile, the world is passing them by. Regardless of environmental consequences, which are meaninful, simply as a business decision the U.S. would be well-served by a President who provided forward-looking leadership on this issue.
Or we can just keep building big trucks and watch ourselves decline just like Detroit.
