Another factor is the closing of the Countrywide acquisition. It's almost certainly too late for BAC to walk away -- regulators probably wouldn't permit it after all this time because CFC would now almost certainly collape on its own. I think a big question for BAC shareholders is "How good or bad will CFC be when it's bolted on to BAC? A platform that will prove its value through time? Or black hole?" Recent CFC stock price action suggests (at least at first) the effects will be negative, possibly very negative.
