Owen,  A fellow named "Limoman" recommended these three funds in a recent topic:

FPACX

PRWCX

PRPFX

You might investigate these as possible acceptable substitutes for MDLOX.  They are all diversified throughout cash, stocks, bonds, etc.  PRPFX is even listed as having a 20% stake in gold.  What these funds lack, compared to Blackrock Global, is strong foreign investments and slightly lower long-term returns.  But in exchange these three are all No-Load.

I can't recommend any of the three personally, but I do think they are worth looking into.  Perhaps one of them will have a strategy/allocation that you find appealing.
