Over a 10 year period when compared to VBMFX I would say Loomis Sayles as done very well vs VG Total Bond. http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/mutualfunds/fundcomparison.asp

Per Morninginstar LSBRX is a Multsector bond fund with investment  grade(A) corp bonds. While MarketWatch considers LSBRX a Long Term Investment Grade Fund. Consider that the Loomis Sayles fund is still 'investment grade' and has considerably outperformed VG Total Bond Index fund. Not a bad investment from what I can see.

Hi Tim,

Grade A is mid-grade, and long-term corporates are risky.

Bonds are used to reduce risks; not increase them.
