But as a responsible fiduciary I would select a small, very select portfolio of companies based on the following criteria: long term records of unimpeachable corporate governance, financial health, dividend growth, profitability, dividend growth and diversity of business model.  I would add to that list that these companies ideally should be the lowest cost provider of their goods or services within their industries.

My portfolio would include ENB, EXC, E, XOM, BAM, BRK.B, UTX, ITT, NSRGY, CHD, COST, TGT, TJX, WMT, MHP, JW.A, CNI, BDX, JNJ, NVO, BCR, XRAY, IBM, TXN, MSFT and SAP
