Gov, I was watching a little of the debate on CSpan this morning. Domineci put
it very succintly. Repubs do not want to tax corporations
Neither do I. Dems think of corporations as evil entities, hence the writing of Hank on this very forum. Repubs look at it another way. They see corporations as places where individuals choose to work and earn a living. Not every person has the drive, motivation, and intelligence to succeed in their own small business. Corporations give these people a vehicle to succeed.
Less taxes on corporations, the more that is spent on capital expenditures, research and development, and employees, the better the economy and national competitiveness.
I don't necessarily agree with an additional windfall profits tax. But I
think taking away any tax loopholes or incentives is rational.
I agree with both counts. I think the gov't should get rid of all subsidies, period. There is no need for them in our current globalized environment. Subsidizes promotes the domestic producers at the expense of the domestic consumers. As Charles Murray said a long time ago, "Anything you subsidize, you get more of."
I think the Oil Companies reflect what America is all about.
The Dems tried a political stunt. A con.
Funddog & Maxim, you guys are both right.
Think about it. Gasoline at $4 per gallon is still ridiculously cheap. These companies build huge rigs in the ocean or drill in inhospitable places all over the Earth and transport the oil in huge tankers that cost billions of dollars. They then need to refine it into several dozen different blends and transport it via truck to gas stations all over the country. They then sell it for the same price (or less) than they do for a bottle of water in the very same gas station.
