Commodities are not currencies, Lili, SpringChange  06-07-2008, 12:54 AM | Post #2525739

Currencies are based on relative values. Commodities have a real value. Did you know that for everyone long in oil, there is somebody short?  Put that in your pipe for awhile and inhale.  If oil is going up, therefore, it's likely in this world now supply and demand not the net neutral speculator that is driving it.  Just never cared to argue about it.

If you think Iran is going to get bombed, invest accordingly, oil will spike higher even. And it ain't gonna be the end of the world, if you're thinking in terms of the world, and investing.  The American consumer will cut back, we are not in a period of high valuations like the nineties, stocks are in better shape than before but look for uncertainty and consequential gyration maybe for a long while, longer than you could imagine you'd be dcaing in.  But you got to love a massive down day when you got cash and you ain't skeered.

I'm fully prepared to take a big loss on portfolio, it's got some spring to it up and down I've noticed.  Own frontier, emerging and small valuey growth stocks in large percents, the allocation sucks, but eveything except frontier purchased thirty to seventy percent off highs, portfolio down nearly exactly two percent today, less than either vgtsx or vtsmx but have to say I don't know what I'm doing I just had to do something this year.

Was lockjawed a few months in cash and it seemed wrong so I'm 90 10 tired of thinking about it all, it's fatigue but it is a plan not to sell on fear I only let myself do that once a year and it was done already in jan up ytd at the time and forty percent give or take last year.  Regret not being way up on the market, not enough guts earlier when market got tanked.  Still, relatively, up five percent over the passive folks at no gain or loss ytd, second guessing and lack of guts no way to treat a lady or portfolio, a man needs conviction to have the confidence to pull it all off.  Don't outguess yourself either.
