Re: Free gas discount cards... Why isn't everyone using them? WOODJ  05-29-2008, 3:19 PM | Post #2522669

I love these cards, not just for gasoline at 5%, but other purchases as well.  My wife and I pay cash for less than $500 in purchases every year, the rest go onto credit cards refunding 1.25% to 5% on every purchase so that our rebates total nearly $1000 annually.    We even charge most utilities payments and some charitable donations.   We pay the cards off monthly.

No, Chipmunk, as you know,  I have said this annually to you.  I grew up in the Depression so I know the value of money and have self control.    We do not spend more because we use a card.  I just put on a roof costing nearly $8000.  I prefer receiving back $100 on that CC purchase rather than throwing it away.   I went on a vacation in April costing about $5000.   I received 5% CC rebate on $1000 of that (on a Discover Card cruise promotion) and 1.25% or more on every thing else.  That gave be back $100 more.

Yes, 5% back on all gasoline is worth a lot to me.   A $50 fillup gives me back $2.50, plus if I buy from my grocery store gas station, I get back 10 cents per gallon more.

By using my credit card I do not have to carry a wad of cash to pay for everything which is dangerous.  I never have more than $40 in cash at any time.   I am definitely safer.  Yes, I could carry a checkbook, but that is too much of a nuisance and time consuming.  The price of credit cards are built into the price of all products.   Those who do not use credit cards are paying that CC built in charge whether they use it or not.

Yeah, why doesn't everyone, besides Chipmunk, use those 5% gas rebate cards.

Jim
