jagor:Natixis is a French asset management company that used to be known as Ixis. It's part of the Caisse d'Epargne. Not only does Natixis own Gateway, which it acquired in Feburary, 2008, it also owns such familiar American mutual fund comapnies as Loomis Sayles, Oakmark and Delafield.
If you do a little research, you will be surprised at how many American mutual fund companies are owned by European banks and asset managers. For example, PIMCO is owned by Germany's Allianz and Pioneer is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UniCredito Italiano S.p.A.
And the odd thing is, residents in Europe proper don't have access to the kind of funds that U.S. residents do. When I lived in Switzerland, I asked my bank (UBS) about mutual funds, and also looked into Fidelity (Europe) funds. They are all load funds with high expense ratios and virtually no information (e.g. portfolio holdings or managers commentary). The Fidelity funds available outside the U.S. are dramatically different than Fidelity funds inside the U.S. I found it amusing that in Singapore, the closest thing to FSEAX had a 5% load and a 2% expense ratio, and all the information you could get other than prior 1- and 3- year returns was the Top 10 holdings!
U.S. residents are unbelievably spoiled for choice compared to the rest of the world.
