Twin: Maybe my earlier posts didnt make it clear. my "obsessive opposition" :) is ONLY against capping rates as a rule.
arbitrarily raising interest rates when customer definitely is screwy practice. that and some other methods you mentioned that cc companies practice to get money. sure go ahead make some laws regarding that. i got no opposition on that and believe it will protect consumers.
btw, over the years, i have gotten hit with the late 29$ fee quite a few times (i would say at 3-4 times a year). i dont have direct debit on any of my cc accounts. sometimes i get e-reminders and shelf it to bills folder and then later realise the last date has come and gone.:) However, there has not been even 1 time that i couldnt get it reverted back. not even 1 time. i dont know where my apr stands though because i pay my bills in full month to month (with some exceptions rarely).
How hard it is to call the 800 number and ask the account specialist to refund the charges. i have managed to do it 3-4 times a year since my grad school days..thats since 1998. and still able to maintain over 750
btw, have you ever demanded the car insurance company to tell you why your rates went up or why one insurance company is charging you 500$ less per 6 months when you have the same driving record available for all agencies. the cost of capital for different firms is different.
