LynnC: Before Bogle, I had a financial planner so I'm stuck with an American fund in my taxable account. (AWSHX) The tax consequences would be great if I sold it. I've owned it for over 20 years.
Sounds like it was a good investment if the tax consequences of selling it would be great. If you invested $10k in AWSHX 20 years ago and reinvested all dividends/capital gains, it would be worth $101k now not including the sales charge. How does that return compare to a Vanguard index fund with a similar investing style if you take into account the load on the AWSHX?
Would VQNPX be close to AWSHX in terms of style? I know M* calls AWSHX a large cap value fund now, but they just changed that from large cap blend 3 days ago.
If this is a good comparison fund, how much would $10k - the AWSHX sales charge be worth today if you invested it in VQNPX in 1998 and reinvested all dividends/capital gains?
I am not sure if VQNPX is a Vanguard actively managed fund or not and if it is, that is not the comparison fund I am looking for.
