Re: Portfolio question: replace some FIREX with FNORX? rtthai  05-01-2008, 5:04 PM | Post #2513715

Erryl -

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about core holdings - very helpful to me.

For foreign, I do consider FIGRX my core holding and am pretty happy with the supporting players, although FIREX is painful right now.

It's my domestic allocation I'd appreciate some help with (again, limited to Fido funds). I want to focus on value funds. Here's what I have:

LC

Large Cap Value (FSLVX)   10%

Value Discovery (FVDFX)   10%

SC

Small Cap Value (FCPVX)  10%

FSLVX and FVDFX seem redundant based on the stock intersection. I would appreciate thoughts on a Fido core LCV holding. Here's what I'm considering for domestic allocation:

LC

Value Discovery (FVDFX) 10%

MC

Low-Priced Stock (FLPSX) 10% (available in my 403B)

SC

Small Cap Value (FCPVX) 10%

Unchanged remainder of portfolio:

Foreign

FIGRX 11%

FICDX 6%

FEMKX 5%

FIREX 5%

FISMX 3%

Bonds

FTBFX 20%

FSICX 20%

I ran this portfolio through X-Ray (which I don't know how to insert here), and the weighting looked good.

Thanks again for your consideration. I did read in a recent post you recommended Mutual Funds for Dummies - am working my way through it.
