new to investing, would like some advice... colerothlauf  05-01-2008, 1:50 PM | Post #2513625  |

I started a Vanguard IRA through my employer at the beginning of 2006.  I am 24 years old, so I assume I have around 40 more years unitl retirement.  I wanted to get some input on how I'm currently investing.  Wether it looks good, or if I should switch some things up if something sticks out like a sore thumb.

Currently I am investing 7% of my pay, along with 3% employer match.  The contributions are allocated...

10% going into Vanguard Long-Term Treasury Fund Investor Shares

25% going into Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund

25% going into Vanguard REIT Index Fund Investor Shares

10% going into Vanguard Target Retirement 2045 Fund

30% going into Vanguard Small-Cap Growth Index Fund

As of now, my portfolio is only around $6,000, and currently has a -5.5% rate of return.  I'd like to get into some of the (what appear to be) more promising funds (ie Wellington, Energy, Metals & Mining, etc.), but cannot meet the minimum investment.  So for the time being I was wondering if I could or should switch around any of the allocation percentages to, control the bleeding per say?

 Thank you in advance!
