I don't think active ETFs will ever amount to very much. Most active strategies suffer under full transparency. A rapid-fire trader doesn't want to reveal his daily buys & sells. A value investor doesn't want to report his buys during the accumulation phase. The only things active ETFs will be good for are fairly simple program strategies. If any of those work, they won't work for very long - too easy for copycats to enter and arbitrage away any inefficiencies. For better or for worse, open-ended active funds are here to stay.
