I have an older relative who is not in the greatest of health. She has asked me for help with investing money she has in municipal bond auction rate certificates should the money free up (which I think it will because the penalty rates being paid by the municipalities are high and they have a large incentive to refinance the debt and get out of the auction rate market). Of course, she won't be reinvesting in the auction rate market when this happens.
Because of the size of her current investment in AF, she would not have to pay the front end load for class A shares. She currently has 100k in Capital World Bond Fund and one thought I had was that she should explore other AF bond funds since this is a good fund family and she wouldn't have to pay the front end load to invest.
She is fairly risk adverse and in the 25% tax bracket. She can live off the money she receives from social security and the interest income from her other investments so she would not be relying on the American Funds for income.
Any thoughts on the AF bond funds would be appreciated!
