I know what you mean.  Ever since I read "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need by Andrew Tobias in 1980, I have been buying tuna fish by the cart full when it is on sale.

If I ever ate it all, I'd die of mercury poisoning I'm sure.

You are not a freak, you are someone who has come to realize that we are all still hunter/gatherers in our own way, and gathering $ is a good way to assure your survival.
