Stock Contest update, 8/31/07

Greetings and welcome to the latest from the stock picks contest. Contestants started the year with $2K in each of five stocks for a portfolio value of $10K. The S&P finished the month +3.9% YTD - 24 of our 54 contestants are ahead of that. BrassTax and Boliche hold the top two spots with (CROX, WFR, ICE) and (GRMN, NUAN) respectively. Strider moves up 4 into third on the strength of (VIP, LFC, CTRP).
EMU was acquired by privately held Uranium One. Last trade was $11.81. $2740.13 was credited to the ports. holding it (hombre munchkin and perhaps one other...). PWEI was acquired by privately held J-M Manufacturing. Last trade was $33.50. $1942.02 was credited to skumar3. MAMA changed tickers to CNIC on 6/21/07. That's the portfolio latest.
I've been following the ^VIX and noticed it hasn't been this high (market this volatile) since 2003. Hope everyone is finding the sweet spot somewhere in between the big swings.
