variable annuities - bad? DR4421  07-01-2007, 7:51 PM | Post #202618  |

At a former job I signed up for a Supplemental Retirement Annuity through TIAA-CREF along with my 403b through another company. After leaving the job, I rolled over the 403b account into an IRA with TIAA-CREF.

Recently I've been reading about how variable annuities are not good to have in general and especially in a tax deferred IRA. For the first time it dawned on me that that's what I had with TIAA-CREF (I always assumed they were traditional mutual funds).

Should I move this money out of the annuities into traditional mutual funds with TIAA-CREF or are there any benefits to staying with annuities? I tried looking into it but most of the recommendations are for those close to retirement. I have 30 years to retirement and I'm moderately aggressive.
