The old ways die hard for some. I'm sure most visitors to this forum can and will have interest in both active and passive investing through the Vanguard Company. Related Topics

While there is merit to both, the "old ways" are not dying and for good reason. In fact, they are not even "old ways":

Jerry, this forum turned off many visitors by stating time and time again that the philosophy of the Diehard forum ment exactly that. I for one believe there is room for the passive and the active investors, but that has always been the case, Jerry. When push came to shove it was the active investor that were on the wrong forum. Page back through the past three years or so and you will see that a number of Passive investors did not put out the welcome mat for those that wished to debate the values of maaged fund investing.

I am glad to to see where Taylor offered advise to one in need just recently,

I may be one of the few that feel every fund that Vanguard offers, including the non Vanguard funds be worthy of discussion on this forum. Are we not all attempting to do our best to invest wisely regardless of the fund.

    Take care, friend

    Tim

OK Tim - I guess it depends on the interpretation of your statement regarding the "old way". I obviously touched a nerve here. You refer to the forum atmosphere in your response. I interpreted your initial post as stating the philosophy of indexing is old and is dying. My bad apparently. This place can be crazy, huh?

Dialogue is good, Jerry. What "old way" ment was the disregard my a few Diehards when the managed funds were mentioned. I realize that this forum was founded on passive investing being the only smart way to invest and one could find a dozen quotes as to why any other idea was not smart investing. I have always felt there was room for both ideas and that this forum should be about more than just Vanguard funds. Many investors arrive on this forum thinking that it for those who invest under the Vanguard name....they have all my IRA money under their cover and will have it after I'm dead and gone.

    Take care, Jerry

You made me realize one thing Tim. That is - it's time for me to go to bed. :-)

    See ya!
