Washington – Freedom’s Watch, a nonpartisan mainstream conservative issues advocacy organization, today called for a congressional inquiry for the purposes of identifying the whereabouts of a much ballyhooed yet elusive “commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.” Two years ago today, then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, announced that in fact her party was in possession of exactly such a plan, yet as of today, not a single Member of Congress has stepped forward to reveal it. “Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices…” (Nancy Pelosi, Press Release, 4/24/06) expect the same results from Obama

These idiotic promises will go no further than their idiotic promises to "create jobs" or to "solve the housing crisis". When was the last time you bought a gallon of gas, or a house, or a loaf of bread that was produced by the government? Government cannot create jobs and government cannot control the economy. Artificial price constraints simply increase demand and decrease supply, which is nothing less than shortages and rationing. Everything government has is produced by the economy, and nothing in the economy is produced by government. Government does, however, produce a lot of hot air, empty promises, and egos who like to hear themselves talk. The Republicans need to grow a backbone and hold Ms Pelosi and Company's feet to the fire for their promises to the American people.

Government can create jobs. Both Hitler and FDR created millions of jobs. One, to create a police state and the other to create an entitlement state. Interestingly, the police state pulled itself out of the Depression long before the entitlement state did.

The Dems have a secret plan to bring about change we can believe in. It's so secret none of them know what it is.

And what exactly can McCain do with a Dem congress?...... He won't be able to get anything more done than you think BO can. (Oh wait.....that's right. He can keep getting our soldiers killed in this mess of a war. BIG accomplishment.)

Don't want to pull out prematurely. No satisfaction there.

"And what exactly can McCain do with a Dem congress?...... He won't be able to get anything more done than you think BO can." The real problem is that BO THINKS he can do something, like tax oil company "windfall profits". That is what the man said. He has zero understanding of how the pricing mechanism works in a supply/demand free market capitalist economy. He and the Democrats can cause huge mischief and create devastating effects for the American consumer. Mark

We don't want the same party Congress and WH. That would just help "The Party". What we want is in the best interest of the countrt. Why can't a Dem Congress do what is in the best interest of the country?

Neither Hillary or Obama will pull out troops from Iraq anytime soon should either one of them become the head poohbah. The stuff they say on the campaign trail is nothing more than hogwash for the naive that want to believe campaign promises. The same goes for universal healthcare. The top dems in the senate just this week stated that it will NOT happen anytime soon. Campaign promises are no different than grabbing manure in one hand and hope in the other.See which one fills up first.

It's almost scary to see so many placing their hope in politicians and not themselves. Such things bring about very oppressive governments. Venezuela being a case in point. Other examples are too obvious to even mention.

Hi E Ted, You've got Maxim speaking German and holding his arm out in a salute again....Oh my. A question for you - how did the police state get itself out of the depression. I believe it was Hitler's preparation for war - increasing the armies, building armaments and planes, etc. President Roosevelt had the US out of the depression in 37 due to New Deal actions - with some recession lasting till the war - but they were very different situations.
BTW, Hoover was president til 1933. He did not believe in any government intervention or direct aid to people - only voluntary cooperation between business and government. Nothing happened to reduce the misery while he was in office.

"President Roosevelt had the US out of the depression in 37 due to New Deal actions" Not really, def. New Deal actions helped relatively few. The cause of the Depression was a compression of the money supply by the Federal Reserve, which caused a normal recession to go much deeper and last much longer than it would have if left alone. Hoover did not cause the economic depression, and Roosevelt did not fix it. To the contrary, Roosevelt ran on a "balanced budget" platform. Mark

I see your knowledge of history is commensurate with your literacy skills. A fine and insightful post that I'm sure accurately reflects conventional thinking at Bellevue. But what role did The Islamofascist play in WW 2? Or are we talking about The Germanotfascist?

My apologies for misspelling "Germanofascist". I certainly didn't mean it as slight against your political affiliation . Mea culpa.

My response was to point out that the recovery by the "police state" was very different from our recovery. Thank goodness we got a president that did take action. The GNP was 34% higher in 1936 than in 1932 and 58% higher in 1940 on
the eve of war. That is, the economy grew 58% from 1932 to 1940 in 8
years of peacetime, and then grew 56% from 1940 to 1945 in 5 years of
wartime. However, the economic recovery did not absorb all the
unemployment Roosevelt inherited. Unemployment fell dramatically in
Roosevelt's first term, from 25% when he took office to 14.3% in 1937.
Afterward, however, it increased to 19.0% in 1938 ('a depression within
a depression'), 17.2% in 1939 because of various added taxation (Undistributed profits tax in Mar. 1936, and the Social Security Payroll Tax 1937, plus the effects of the Wagner Act; the Fair Labor Standards Act and a blizzard of other federal regulations), and stayed high until it almost vanished during World War II when the previously unemployed were conscripted, taking them out of the potential labor supply number.[52]
He did take actions - it did make a difference. I had a relative in CCC and I've met other folks that were in the CCC too. FDR ran on balanced budget and made to cuts toward that - but did completely abandon the goal so that recovery could be supported via government spending.
