If you have not, get ready for a little confusion. We selected a ceiling fan at a major retailer last wk., got it home, installed it and went to screw our standard size fluorescent lights in. Wrong. The showroom display fan had a standard bulb socket, but all the fans in the box had small lamp sockets, so we ended up buying flourescent bulbs with the small base. We needed another fan, so this time we went to another major retailer. My wife picks out a fan and I'm ready this time. I tell her don't assume the display will match what's in the box. Sure enough it did'nt. This fan does'nt have small OR standard lamp bases but a NEW intermediate size lamp base. So, we're like, fine, we'll buy intermediate size fluorescent bulbs. Wrong again. Could'nt find one in the whole store. I went to talk to the front desk and asked them what in the heck is going on. The guy says, "the best we can figure is that people were buying too many fluorescent bulbs and so the light makers got together with the ceiling fan makers and came out with the new intermediate size lamp bases, which don't come in fluorescent style bulbs yet". They do sell an adapter that goes from small to standard and vice versa, but not to intermediate. So to recap, your options are now small, intermediate and standard sizes, but if you buy an intermediate you are S.O.L. on finding a fluorescent bulb to fit it.

Know what your buying and what is needed before you install it (or before you leave the store..idealy!)
Always check on box to determine what kind of bulbs are required and if they are included or not!
ESPECIALLY if your buying and tradesman is installing.....you pay extra for a second trip if you did not know something was not included! Happens all the time when homeowners buy the materials! (Ofcourse, who wants there contractor to pick out the ugly cieling fan!....NOT!)
Skillet, Sorry to hear of your bad experiences.
Better Luck tommorrow my friend!
Best Brian

Last year I bought 7 ceiling fans. Ceiling fans are the biggest pain-in-the-ass to order out of all light fixtures. Each company offers a multitude of options for each particular model and the retailer often isn't aware of all the options and often orders incorrectly. Also, ordering is a pain in the butt for the retailer because it is so confusing how to order the various options for each model - which often leads to the fan being ordered incorrectly. Such is the way it is with ceiling fans.
Used to be Casablanca was a good company. Now they are crap, that's my opinion. I bought Three Minka-Aire fans last year, two Casablanca (won't buy them again) and one Regency fan. I think they were bought out or something. Not the company they used to be.
