MF CONTEST *2008*.......ENROLL *NOW*

Time flies, guys. It is approaching yearend and it is time to enroll for the *2008* MF Contest. As discussed previously, I am passing the baton to SageNolos. He has graciously agreed to take over as administrator/head honcho. For however long he needs me, I will help him post the ranks. (That won't take long, will it?! After all, SAGE has been helping me a lot this year --something I am forever grateful for.)

If you'd like to participate in our 2008 MF contest, SageNolos has quite generously agreed to give y'all from now and until 12 midnight EST, Sunday, December 30th. However, don't wait too long to enroll... Sage's program has its limits and he can allow a maximum of 100 participants OR a max of about 270 unique picks, whichever comes first.

The MF contest invests $50,000 equally among your five (5) OEF, ETF and/or CEF picks. All distributions will be reinvested prior to each ranking throughout the year. Sage did not say, but I assume that he will be using the same benchmarks as those for 2007... FFNOX, VTSMX, S&P500 and EAFE.

Please post only ONE time here.
Simultaneously enroll and specify your 5 fund picks.

Each of your 5 picks must be an OEF, ETF or CEF. No individual stocks or REITs, Trusts, etc, allowed.

Your 5 picks must be different funds, no doubling or tripling-up by choosing A, B, C or other same-fund share classes.

Your funds cannot be from the pinksheets. IOW, they must have some sort of consistent daily volume of trade.

If you prefer to overweight a particular sector, asset or style, use other funds from among their peers.
For example, mldeerslayer is a goldbug, a trueblue bear and/or both. His 5 picks every year are all gold/precious metal funds... BGEIX, GOLDX, TGLDX, USERX and USAGX.

Good luck, everyone!

Regards,
Susan

P.S. If the MF enrollment post drops from the front "page" Sage or I will simply bump it up.

Hi Susan,

It will be interesting if we pick only what we own. That will make it a real contest.

I picked the best five of my portfolio and I want to see how good my decisions are as

compared to the fellow investers.

Just a thought ..................thanks

I agree that only picking funds you own makes for a more interesting contest.

I don't (necessarily) pick funds that I own.  I already track the return on my real portfolio and compare it to the contest and other benchmarks.  I like to use the contest to evaluate investing strategies that I am interested in but not necessarily following.

Also, the contest has an artificial but necessary one-year time limit.  I kinda doubt anyone here has a real (equity) portfolio that is intended for a one-year holding period.

My real-life strategy involves holding positions from 30 days to a maximum of a few years.  So, the contest requires some thought to evaluate what will maximize returns over 365 days.

Please discuss proposals elsewhere!

Please don't clutter this conversation with off topic discussion.  Please discuss proposed changes at the Proposed MF Contest rule changes conversation  (ps. Its ok to discuss what you pick and why, when you make your picks, in fact, an explanation is helpful).

AND Dennis! (DKP50)  there are only 5 (FIVE) choices allowed!  So unless you specify otherwise before the limits are reached, I am just going to use your first five. (BTW, its Norm, not Norma! & Paul was disagreeing! Sorry for the OT comment. LOL)
