I sure pity the suckers that will buy into the IPO of the GLOBAL REAL ESTATE INVESTMENTS FUND.

First, it is being pedaled in $1000 certificates comprised on a "variable number of shares" beginning at $10 per share. That's a big red flag as far as I'm concerned.

Second, the sales load on the IPO is a staggering 8.5%! That's unheard of in today's market. I think I paid 8% on broker commissions back in the early 70s, if I'm remembering it right.

The CEF will be a rare "Interval Fund" with annual share repurchases of at least 5% and continuous offerings of shares.

Finally, the fund says:

"The Board of Trustees intends to consider the conversion of the Fund to an open-end investment company or the listing of the Fund’s shares on a national stock exchange by December 31, 2015."

So,  an interesting fund indeed. Should be fun to watch this one develop.

As always, thanks to Thomas for the heads up on the SEC filing. Much appreciated.

Happy holidays to all,

Steve

I'll be interested in the ING IDE Infrastructure fund once it gets past the IPO stage.  Infrastructure as a play, especially in the EM world looks decent.  This one will have pretty broad definition including transport and telecommunications so is quite broad.  It will also sell calls on up to 1/3 of its holdings, so should be extra income, if limiting the upside in a real market surge.

I sold MFD, which was my play here, as it had started getting beaten up pretty well and the price had risen to 10% premium.  I made a nice gain and got the distys while I held it.  May buy it back when it looks to maybe have hit a bottom and if it goes back to a discount.

Thanks Thomas!

This CEF will plug a big coverage gap in my portfolio. Believe it or not, I have zero investments in Albania.

Now, if I can only find one that is over weighted in Myanmar, I'd be set!

 :-)

Steve,

It is good you did not mentioned the United Arab Emirates,

Kuwait or Bahrain which are this listed there.

Their neighbors from  Dubai, The Dubai Fund   handed 11 Billion dollars  to Citygroup  to save them.
