I'm high. Are you?
LOL! It's not what you think. I scored 34, indicating a high tolerance for risk.
Some more interesting data I've discovered...

Susan

35 - and my husband calls me basically a conservative investor. I think the questions about if you were given or inherited what would you do actually hinge more on the amount of money you have - i.e. I'm much more willing to gamble with 2k or 10k than someone how's hurting b/c of what CD's are paying now.

Your Score: 21
You have a below-average tolerance for risk.
I am at a risk score of 30,

I haven't yet, but as I age (I am now nearing 71), I find my risk tolerance still is quite high, but I'm tending to position my portfolio more for the time when I am "no longer present to manage it myself"... i,e., in the ground...
I'm still all equities, no index funds, and no bonds except for those in my balanced funds, but the balanced funds are now a bigger part of my portfolio (nearly all in IRAs.)
Time for supper, but I'll take the quiz later.

that you are a 35, but I am surprised that your husband considers you to be conservative. I read your posts, and I would put you into a somewhat lower classification than High RIsk TOlerance... actually more like my 31.
But your beloved????/ now there is Mr. 22...... I mean there is risk aversion and there is RISK AVERSION.... and you know which one I think he falls into.... ;-)

Didn't like the questions. For instance, risk, to me is all about the unknowns. If I knew everything to know about a company, I no longer view it as a risk, except when to enter. However, it's impossible to know everything, so every investment involves risk. Risk, imo, is not an opportunity, merely a lack of knowledge.
And if I owned all government bonds and a bunch of "experts" are telling me gold or real estate or whatever is going up, so what? I've never listened to the great seers with their crystal balls, nor have I ever owned all bonds, and never intend to.
So, I scored 27, average. Yet, I've probably got what most of you would say is the riskiest portfolio on this board, all stock and concentrated in only 10 stocks. Nor do I intend to change my investment style.
The test didn't help me in any way.
Sorry to be such a spoiled sport.

Scored a 25, but the questions seem pretty poor to me. A lot depends on how the answers are interpreted. I know I was bouncing around in terms of "risk"!
Question 2: You're on a tv show and you stand to lose nothing. You're playing with house money. Why not take a 50% or 25% gamble?
Question 3: You've probably paid for the danged vacation; what do you gain by cancelling it?!
Question 4: House money again. How you invest probably depends a lot on your age!
Question 5: How many people have NO confidence in investing ANYTHING in mutual funds?!
Question 7: Your only choice is selling or holding ALL the bonds?!?! And if you DO sell them, you have to dump 50% or more into hard assets?! Sheesh!
Questions 8-10: If you have a six-figure income, who the heck cares about a few hundred dollars!? Maybe your income determines the score here?
Question 12: This one seems the most useful, imo, but what do I know?
Oh well, killed a few minutes in an otherwise quiet day...

Susan, thanks for the insight to this Rutgers quiz. I waivered a bit on a few questions but felt comfortable that I'm a 30. I also took the personal finance test. I agree with another's comments that age and/or financial status plays a bit of a role here. They probably should have an age and $ status guage to create more accuracy...but it was a good basic quiz.

Thanks for the links, Susan. 23
The latest thing in risk tolerance is now linked to personality type. Hot books on the subject are Financial DNA, Financial Archetype and Master Your Money Type.
My latest conclusion on risk tolerance for newbies is there is probably no accurate risk tolerance assessment under all circumstances without experience. Tolerance might be assessed too high in good times and too low in bad times.

Bob,
I agree with you about probably being a 31 and that's probably why Mr. 22 (I REALLY like that appellation) thinks I'm conservative. It was the questions like the game show one that brought out my gambling streak. I LOVE the penny slots.

I scored a 28 using the investment data I post on HandsOn tracking each month.
This does not include the stock I hold in our family-owned businesses (all successful, with long-term free cash flows). I'm guessing that if I took the time to do a valuation of each of those businesses, and include them in the mix, the result may move me down a point or two (i.e., more conservative), but nothing significant.
That was a cool quiz, Susan. Thanks!
Mike
