Anyone doing any fly fishing? I was in Yellowstone a couple of summers ago and got to go on a guided fly fishing trip in the park. There had been some rain that muddied up many of the streams, but we ended up fishing in the Soda Butte. It was the first time I had ever caught trout on a fly rod and it was great! Right now all I am catching is bluegills and a few occasional bass on my 8 ft. 5wt., which is also a lot of fun! But I am ready to catch more trout, maybe Colorado?

I took up fly fishing a few years ago and, since I live in Indiana, am catching bass and panfish as well.  9' 5wt.  I have always wanted to fish out west, just haven't made it yet.  I wish you good luck and great fishing.

The following is common knowledge.

In the fall, starting about Sept. 15, the browns will start to run up the Madison in Yellowstone.   They will  run all the way to the and maybe beyond the junction of the Gibbon and Firehole.  So, many people, including myself, go to Yellowstone in late Sept and early Oct to fish for them.  The fly of choice is the woolly bugger black or black/olive, which is a streamer, and the rubber leg and copper john, which are nymths.

The more you fly fish, the more you learn and the more your skill increases.  Join your local Trout Unlimited or Federation of Fly Fishers.
