On my Federal form, TurboTax says I am entitled to a refund of about $1,400 and asks me for my bank checking account number for direct deposit from the IRS.

On the other hand, it says I am subject to $5,400 Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) payment to the IRS. How can I be subject to payment to the IRS and refund from IRS at the same time? Do I owe net $3,000 (that is, $5400 - $1400 = $3,000) to IRS then?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
