I'm thinking of getting into OAKBX, and am wondering if it's still a good fund? Have there been any major changes recently?
Thank you,.....marc

It certainly is: fine long-term results, no changes, and it's weathered this year's mess far better than most funds. Read about it on its Morningstar pages--that's the best way to gather information. Good luck!

Ditto
Note the holdings, low financial weightings, long natural gas and safe treasury notes and TIPS.I love this fund- had it for many years as a core holding.

Add one more into the "recommendation" column. Very pleased with OAKBX performance, especially in these rough times.

Yes Marc.. IF you need a Balanced fund to make the decisions for you on your Allocations of Being into Both Equities and Bonds..( do you need a 60/40 Port?)
It's APY of about 10% over the past 10 yrs doesn't tell the whole story.. It how it did in Bear markets..that counts to me as well as getting near S&P rtns in Bull markets.
That being said? There are others out there... Like LAALX, PRWCX,FBALX, VWELX, that although may not have the same "safe harbors" in Bear markets, but have outperformed for the long term. and have lower Costs/Fees.
Size matters... as these Popular funds gow, so does it become harder for them to outperform...thus I like Adam Bolds comment... Invest in 3 of them
If one is Decent with Indexing? Can get the same or better rtns as OAKBX..
Inotherwords? Don't put all your eggs in one basket..Look for new Up and comming Funds.. Ormaybe Oakmark will open a 2nd Balanced Fund and Close OAKBX? Like Leuthold Did?
I'd like to see this fund Close...being of the selfish in mind.... And owing Magellon in it's Golden Yrs and look what happened to it.. and how about D&C's > DODBX..
It appears most funds are good for their first 10 or so yrs and then they slack off and barely do as well as their peers/Indexes... wether it's due to being To Big or maybe their Mgrs/owners become Burned out or Just complacent making 5x more than they ever imagined...
Yes, I do won An equal % allocation in OAKBX, but I also Own LAALX & PRWCX..
Hopeing LAALX is the next up & comming Bal >Fund..Only time will tell..

I have a good amount of my portfolio invested in this fund. I also like OAKGX for international exposure. Individual results may vary of course!

I definitely think the "hassle" (about 10 minutes of paperwork repeated twice over a several week period) and small fee to open direct at Oakmark and transfer to your brokerage of choice is well-worth it for a fund you plan on holding for years. If you plan to sell when rough seas hit, then don't waste your time. But for a core holding, it was a no-brainer for me.
