What this country needs is another WAR

Another war would firm up his place in history, help take everyone's mind off the high gas prices, the falling dollar, the falling house prices, rising unemployment and ballooning deficits.

Bush has until his term is up to start another war.  He has been beating the war drums lately, much like he did before the invasion of Iraq.  Maybe he and Cheney can get Israel to do the dirty deed.   Make it look like it was their doing, since he already has two wars going and to start a third front might look a little dubious even to the most ardent supporters.

In my country, the heating works by electricity.

That's the case in Iraq as well.  However, during the March invasion and following, not too many folks suffered from hypothermia due to the cold weather and ack of heat in their homes in Iraq :-)  (Heat stroke due to lack of a/c, perhaps - but that was in short supply before the war.)

"....a wacky source (second hand from the Post) that estimated 625,000 civilian deaths in Iraq."

Ted. that was actually the same Lancet study that originally estimated 625K deaths back in 2004.  Since those figures were proven not just wrong but impossibly, ridiculously wrong, the Lancet folks have apparently reduced their estimate to the 100,000 to 200,000 figure, depending on Faluja, etc. etc ...

Translation:  They are guessing.  Inaccurately it would appear.

This post is inflammatory and has been reported as such.

I don't understand why this post is present saying that the previous one is inflammatory.  Could someone please explain it to me.

Body counts are such messy things, could do it like Vietnam, the US dropped so many bombs/sq mile and then used the logic that so many Cong must have been killed since so many bombs were dropped.  No one will ever know how many people were killed in IRaq, but it is a very large number, but I guess if you are so inclined it isn't such a big number since so many try to defend it.

The invasion did create a lot of refugess, millions by some estimates.  But what do you expect for hundreds of billions.

The oil traders think there is a realistic probability that IRan will be bombed.  Olmart seems awfully weak to start a war.  Bush has used fear to start one war and could do it again.  Remember what history has taught, that if you make the people afraid as a leader you can lead them to war.  The NEO cons want another war, Bush must be smarter than that????  Well maybe not.

There's only one war, and we're winning. No thanks to the Left, no thanks to Obama, no thanks to most of our so-called allies.

The idea that the Fascists will defeat America comes from a mindset that I'll never understand. Don't want to understand.

I assume you're referring to the war on terrorism.  The U.S. has engaged in wars that some consider are winnable, but I don't think the war on terrorism is one of them.  I think there will always be terrorists out there.  The "good guys" need to do everything in their power to prevent them from hurting others.  Hopefully there comes a day when war will become unnecessary.

Hook, I suspect the war Ted is referring to is "The Long War" that would be the war against Islamist totalitarianism.  "Terrorism" is just a convenient, politically correct, way it is often misreferred to.

Unfortunatly, I do not necessarily share Ted's opinion that we are winning that war - it is way too early to tell.  OTOH we ARE clearly winning in the Iraq theater.  Afganistan (which unfortunately includes Pakistan) may be up for grabs for a couple of years, and we have made little progress in Iran.

The Islamic world must be reformed, and those that promote the Islamist totalitarian ideology must be killed, or marginalized and isolated.  This is all part of an assymetrical, fourth-generation war - but it is a global war nonetheless.  What it is not is a "global law enforcement issue".

.......what a totally assinine, pathetic statement to make. It's not bad enough in the first place that war is  outdated and futile, but really, when was the last time the US actually won a war? I know , I know the US likes to take credit for winning  WW2 ,well even that is questionable ,given that the enemy, as well as the allies had been fighting the war to the point of exhaustion long before the US even entered it.It's like saying you won a boxing match with an opponent that had already gone 18 rounds. Give your head a shake, why would the US be nieve enough again to embroil itself in a war only to be seen as the loser, yet again. If nothing else, surely its getting embarrassing. The US is tanking fast, your enemies are getting stronger/smarter  and all you can think about is starting another war ,which  you will inevitably lose, using  borrowed Chinese money to finance it .I'm disgusted with the general mentality.

In my opinion, the U.S. played a pivotal role in the allies victory in WW2.  The U.S. provided the allies resources that enabled them to make it to the 18th round.  They would have been knocked out quickly if the U.S. hadn't have done this.  Then we finally stepped up and quickly knocked out the axis.  The U.S. citizens sacrificed their way of life and the U.S. used all their resources to destroy the axis.  You should give credit where credit is due.

Is for golfers, "I'll have your ass in nine!".

As for wolves and sheep, you have your alpha males, and you got your omegas that stay home and tend to the pups.  Let us alpha males go off to war, it's a part of our gene code, but do keep in mind we do get the pick in females with our status.  Biology is destiny.

You can teach the pups to be more gentle while you're merrily chowing down back at the den,  some will good-naturedly bite you in the ass, there's always gonna be a few alphas in each litter to ensure your survival in the pack.  You lefties just don't appreciate a good thing because you keep on thinking you can remove man from nature, as if man was a peaceable alien from Mars.

We are one and the same, as all of the creatures and plants on Earth.  What is with the alienation you feel?  I can only mentally remove myself from this planet, physically, you and I are a vital and sustaining cell in its structure.  The only angst I feel, are for the loss of my Martian denmates, they're so fat and happy they've gotten sleepy and slow.
